Britain and India face off in ``National Lampoon`s Van Wilder 2: The Rise of Taj,`` a sequel to ``National Lampoon`s Van Wilder`` of 2002 and a strained attempt to transplant the American campus comedy to more uptight shores. A college graduate, Taj Badalandabad (Kal Penn) heads to Camford University in England to pursue a Ph.D.
Rejected by the campus` Fraternal Guild, Fox and Hounds, devastated Taj becomes the head of a band of misfits; Sadie (Holly Davidson), a gorgeous Cockney girl with a mouth like a gutter, Seamus (Glen Barry), an English-hating Irishman, Gethin (Anthony Cozens), the ultimate nerd, and Simon (Steven Rathman), a goofy-looking kid who rarely talks.
Directed by Mort Nathan from a screenplay by David Drew Gallagher, ``National Lampoon`s Van Wilder 2: The Rise of Taj`` harnesses smut and silliness to an oddly innocent tale of true love. ``Money and position make no difference when it comes to matters of the heart,`` Taj declares.
