About
Abhishek Kanwar is an Indian filmmaker, director, screenwriter and editor whose journey in cinema began at an early age, surrounded by the craft and legacy of filmmaking. He started his professional journey working alongside his father, National Award-winning filmmaker K. Pappu, and took his first significant steps into the film industry under the guidance of his uncle, veteran filmmaker Raj Kanwar. These early experiences gave him a strong foundation in storytelling, filmmaking and the discipline of working within the Indian film industry.

Over the years, Abhishek has worked across feature films, television commercials, music videos and independent cinema, contributing to several notable projects, including Big Brother, Sadiyaan, Total Dhamaal and Thank God. His experience across different formats has shaped his distinctive approach to visual storytelling, combining commercial sensibility with an emphasis on authentic characters and emotionally driven narratives.

Abhishek also ventured into independent filmmaking through his production house, High Angle Films, under which he directed two documentaries, Ali Bhai Bansuriwale and Last Drop. Ali Bhai Bansuriwale marked an important milestone in his journey, earning recognition at a film festival and introducing him to the world of independent and festival cinema.

After years of working behind the scenes and developing his craft across various aspects of filmmaking, Abhishek Kanwar stepped into feature-film direction with his debut directorial, Janak, an intense Marathi courtroom drama inspired by true events and the complexities of justice in the age of social media. The film follows a daughter's determined fight for justice for her late father, bringing together courtroom tension, human emotion and a powerful social narrative.

With Janak, Abhishek marks a significant new chapter in his career, bringing his years of experience as an assistant director, filmmaker, writer and editor into his own directorial vision. As a filmmaker, Abhishek aspires to create real, relevant and emotionally powerful cinema while continuing to explore feature films, commercials, music videos, documentaries and short-form storytelling.

His filmmaking philosophy is rooted in the belief that compelling stories, authentic emotions and strong visual language can create cinema that resonates beyond the screen. Abhishek Kanwar is a director, screenwriter, editor and filmmaker committed to building a body of work that bridges commercial cinema with meaningful storytelling.
