Alan Jay Lerner, born on August 31, 1918 in New York City, was an American lyricist and writer. He has started his lyricist career with the film The Swift Show in the year 1949. After that, he has written lyrics for several films and TV series. His work credits, include Groundhog Day, North by Northwest, 50 First Dates and Forrest Gump. He won 3 Oscars, another 8 wins and 7 nominations for his Best Writing for the films. He died of complications of lung cancer, at the age of 67, on June 14, 1986 in New York City.
