The actor made his debut with a small supporting role in the film Friday After Next (2002). After starring in various short films, he broke into the mainstream industry with the series The Young and the Restless (2004). His notable works include the TV series The Shield (2005), Live Free or Die Hard (2007), The Midnight Meat Train (2008), The Grind (2009), The Ugly Truth (2009), The Equalizer (2014) and Bones (2015) before he was a part of Superfly (2018). Apart from acting, Maldonado is also an entrepreneur and runs his own clothing line along with an app called Everybody Digital, which has been dubbed as the "Netflix of short films".
