Spanish cinematographer Alvaro Gutierrez is best known for his work in movies like Under the Stars (2007) and Mr. Kaplan (2014), the former of which earned him a Goya Award nomination for Best Cinematography in 2008. In Indian cinema, Gutierrez is best known for his association with the Bollywood production house Excel Entertainment, where he started out by working in the camera department of movies like Luck By Chance (2009), Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011) and Dil Dhadakne Do (2015).

In 2018, Gutierrez served as a cinematographer on the historical sports drama Gold, which chronicled the story behind India`s first Olympic gold medal as a free nation, and starred Akshay Kumar in the lead role. The Akshay Kumar starrer marked the first time Gutierrez was helming the camera department for an Excel Entertainment film. Other significant movie credits include The Invisible Eye (2010), They Are All Dead (2014), the Chinese romantic comedy My Best Friend`s Wedding (2016) and the anthology film Lust Stories (2018).
