Known for successfully balancing both the art forms, he has appeared in movies like As Tears Go By (1983), Full Throttle (1996), Running Out of Time (2000), and A Simple Life (2012). In 2010, he acted in an action-adventure mystery film Detective Dee and the Mystery of the Phantom Flame. His 2016 project includes another action-adventure film The Great Wall, directed by Yimou Zhang. Co-starring Matt Damon, Jing Tian, Pedro Pascal, and Willem Dafoe, the movie tanked at the box office, failing to create much of an impact.
