Anupama Deshpande started her singing career on stage under various famous banners. Having gained a good reputation on stage, she then ventured into films where she sang under the baton of composers like Laxmikant-Pyarelal, Rajesh Roshan, Bappi Lahiri, Anu Malik, Sajid-Wajid, Anand-Milind and Dilip Sen-Samir Sen. It was in the year 1985, that Ms Anupama won the coveted Filmfare Award for the Best Female Playback Singer for the film Sohni Mahiwal. Her song in the Madhuri Dixit starrer, 'Sailaab'. 'Hum ko aaj kal hai intezar' is still a national rage. She has also been awarded Best Female Playback Singer by the Govt of Maharashtra & Gujarat, She has also been awarded the 'Uttam Kumar Award' instituted by the West Bengal Govt.
