Aparna Purohit holds a B.A. Honours in journalism from Delhi University and a postgraduate degree in mass communication from the APJ Kidwai Mass Communication Research Centre (MCRC), Jamia Millia Islamia University, New Delhi. She began her career as an assistant director on films with Aparna Sen, Bharatbala, and Naseeruddin Shah, before moving into production. Her corporate journey started at Sony Entertainment Television (2006-2007) as executive producer on shows including CID and Fear Factor, followed by stints at UTV Motion Pictures and Reliance Entertainment, where she produced films such as Abohman and Well Done Abba. In 2010, she joined the National Film Development Corporation of India as a consultant, later becoming Creative Head of Productions at Cinestaan Film Company in 2014, where she oversaw Mirzya.

In January 2016, Purohit joined Amazon Prime Video India as Head of Originals, a role she held for eight years, developing and launching some of the platform's most successful shows - including Paatal Lok, Mirzapur, Made in Heaven, Inside Edge, Breathe, Four More Shots Please!, Bandish Bandits, and Comicstaan. She was also credited as a driving force behind diversity initiatives at Prime Video, significantly increasing female participation in storytelling both in front of and behind the camera. In 2024, she departed Amazon to join Aamir Khan Productions, where she now produces alongside Aamir Khan - including Batwara 1947 (2026), the Partition-era drama directed by Rajkumar Santoshi.
