Arun over the years, has carved a niche for himself in the world of percussion as one of the few drummers who does inter-disciplinary music. He has trained for jazz drumming under his father B.S Sukumar and the renowned drummer Ranjit Barot. Arun also trained in Carnatic percussions under Sri. S.V.Giridhar and Sri. Anoor Anantha Krishna Sharma.He was initiated to Carnatic music from the Legendary Vocalist `Karnataka kala tilaka` Vidwan Anoor Suryanarayana. For the past fifteen years, Arun has been sharing the stage with Indian classical music`s geniuses like Sangita Kalanidhi Dr R K Srikantan, Sangita Kalanidhi Dr M Balamuralikrishna, Ghatam maestro Vikku Vinayakram, Tabla maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain, Sangita Kalanidhi Trichy Sankaran, Dr L Subramaniam, Ganakalshree and Percussion maestro A. Sivamani. Arun also has been performing with India`s renowned Jazz musicians like Ranjit Barot, Amit Heri, Karl Peters, Louis Banks, Gino Banks, Keith Peters, Sheldon D`silva and performed with the Legendary Guitarist Mike Stern and George Brooks. Arun, along with a few like-minded musicians has formed a percussion band `Layatharanga`. Arun is part of few bands including Tabla maestro Bickram Ghosh`s `Rhythmscape` and Veena maestro RajheshVaidya`s `Square`. He has performed with the Legendary playback singers like Dr P B Srinivas, Dr S P Balasubramaniam, Dr K J Yesudas, S Janaki, Vani Jayaram, P Sushela, K S Chitra, Kavitha Krishnamurthy, Hariharan,Shankar Mahadevan. Arun has toured many countries and has given extraordinary performances throughout and is a person who always has a zeal to learn more.Arun is a graded artist in the All India Radio-one of the oldest promoters of Indian classical music. Arun is an active member of the music fraternity in the South Indian Film Industry.
