An alumnus of the prestigious of National School of Drama, Baharul Islam is one of the most prominent names in the world of theatre in India. Having founded his own theatre group called Seagull, Baharul has acted in over 80 plays and has directed about 30 plays. Touted as one of the busiest men in Assam, Baharul joined Tara Art of London in 1992 for the play Heer Ranjha, for which he rehearsed extensively in London and had several shows across the UK and Japan.

Making his movie debut, Baharul was a part of the Assamese movie Asene Kunuba Hiyat, following which he went on to appear in a string of movies like Samiran Barua Ahi Ase, Jatinga Ityadi, Rodor Sithi, Antaheen Jatra, and Alifa.
