Balakumaran was a Tamil writer and novelist. He had written approximately 150 novels, 100 short stories, and dialogues/screenplays for 14 films. He had also contributed to Tamil periodicals including Kalki, Ananda Vikatan and Kumudam. He received the state award for Best Screenplay Writer for Kaadhalan.
