Barry Jenkins is an American film director and screenwriter. He made his film debut with the romantic drama Medicine for Melancholy (2008), which was well-received by the critics and received nominations at the Los Angeles Film Festival, Chicago International Film Festival and the Gotham Independent Film Awards. In 2016, he wrote and directed the drama film Moonlight, which opened to universal critical acclaim and went on to become an awards season favourite. For his work in the movie, Jenkins received multiple nominations for screenwriting and direction at the Academy Awards and the Golden Globe Awards, and a nomination for Best Original Screenplay at the BAFTA Awards. Besides feature films, Jenkins has also directed episodes of television shows like Futurestates and Dear White People, and numerous short films.
