Rebbeca Marie Gomez, better known by her stage name Becky G, is a popular American singer, songwriter, model, rapper and actress who rose to fame in 2011 she started posting online videos of herself singing covers of popular songs. Gomez who started her career as a singer got her first big break as she was offered a joint record deal with Kemosabe Records and RCA Records. Becky subsequently collaborated with renowned artists like will.i.am, Cody Simpson, Cher Lloyd and in 2013 she released her debut singles ‘Becky from the Block,’ which received positive reception. The same year, Gomez also released her maiden extended play, ‘Play It Again.’

The singer-turned-actress achieved international fame and recognition with the release of her album ‘Shower’ (2014), which went on to be at the top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Gomez made her acting debut with House of Sin in 2011 and later starred in the American superhero film Power Rangers (2017).

Early Life
Born and raised in Inglewood, California, Becky G is the daughter of Alejandra and Francisco Gomez who have Mexican descent. The singer-actress along with her two brothers, Frankie and Alex and a younger sister named Stephanie suffered various hardships during their childhood as the family lived under poverty. When Gomez was nine years old, the family moved to live in her grandparents’ house and Gomez who was always more mature for her age took up part-time jobs like doing voice over work and support the family financially.

Gomez initially went to a public school but eventually she did home schooling because she was being bullied by other children. She claimed that at one point, some girls pounced on her in the restroom because of her jobs in the entertainment industry. Before appearing in films, the actress appeared in a short film titled Tux (2008) as well as appeared in a TV film on the Discovery channel called La estaction de la Calle Olvera.

Personal Life
In February 2015, Gomez began dating the singer Austin Mahone, however, the relationship did not last long and the two parted ways in August 2015. In 2016, it was confirmed that Gomez was seeing Sebastian Lletget, an American professional soccer player.

TV Career
Becky G made her acting debut on television with the TV film La estacion de la Calle Olvera, which was showcased on the Discovery Channel. Her other popular TV appearances include Austin & Ally (2015) where she played herself in one of the episodes titled Dancers and Ditzes and Empire (2015) where he appeared in two episodes as Valentina Galindo.

Movie Career
After making her acting debut on the silver screen with the American drama House of Sins in 2011, Gomez played the role of Trini, a Yellow Ranger in the 2017 American superhero film Power Rangers. Although the film directed by Dean Israelite received mixed critical reviews, Gomez’s performance was much appreciated and she made universal headlines for being the first queer Power Ranger.

Music Career
Becky G started her career in the music industry as she became a member of the girl group named G.L.A.M with whom she filmed a music video titled ‘JellyBean’ in 2009. It was during this time, Gomez started recording and posting her videos on YouTube with her cover versions of popular songs. It was also at this time that she started writing her own songs and by the age of 13 she had taught herself to play guitar. Gomez befriended the production duo The Jam, who impressed by her written material began to work together and they made covers of popular songs like Otis, Lighters and Novacane. Her cover version of the song Otis caught the attention of the producer Dr. Luke who offered her to work with Kemosabe Records and RCA Records. Whilst she was working with the label, she simultaneously worked on her debut album.

The singer-turned-actress released her first song titled ‘Problem’ featuring will.i.am, which was later remixed and used in the end credits of the film Hotel Transylvania (2012). The following year, Gomez released her official singles debut ‘Becky from the Block’ and later in the year released another song Play it Again for digital download. He enjoyed her first major success with her singles ‘Shower’ (2014), which entered the top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States. The song went on to receive platinum certification from RIAA and it accounted for sales of more than two million copies in the US.
