Elizabeth Folan Gilpin, better known as Betty Gilpin, is an American actress. Since both her parents were actors, she developed an interest in the field quite soon and studied theatre at Fordham University. While she studied theatre of the absurd at college, after graduation she found herself being typecast. She was often given the role of a `bimbo` or `the hot girl`. She played several side characters in TV shows like Law & Order: Criminal Intent (2006-2009), Fringe (2008) and Elementary (2016).

She gained recognition through her role as Dr.Carrie Roman in the medical drama Nurse Jackie (2013-2015). Her career breakthrough was her role as Debbie in the Netflix comedy series GLOW (2017-present). Highly praised, she has received nominations for Primetime Emmy Awards, Critics` Choice Television Awards and Screen Actors Guild Awards for the same role. She has also starred in supporting roles in films like Ghost Town (2008), Take Care (2014), True Story (2015), and Future `38. In 2019 she appeared in A Dog`s Journey and Isn`t It Romantic. Her 2020 release includes the horror film The Grudge.
