About
Filmmaker, producer, screenwriter and actor Bhimaneni Srinivasa Rao is hailed as "the remake specialist" of Telugu cinema, and has several hit films to his credit. He started out as an assistant director in the early 1980s, working in movies like Vande Mataram (1985), Karthavyam (1991) and Chinna Rayudu (1992) early on in his career. In 1995, Rao made his independent directorial debut with the comedy Subhamastu, which was a remake of the Malayalam comedy-drama Aniyan Bava Chetan Bava (1995).
Following the success of his maiden directorial venture, Rao helmed hit films like Subhakankshalu (1997), Suryavamsam (1998) and Suprabhatam (1998), all of which were remakes of Tamil blockbusters. In 2002, Rao debuted as a producer with the romantic drama Nee Thodu Kavali, which he also directed. The filmmaker subsequently remade the Vijay starrer Thirupaachi (2005) into Annavaram (2006) starring Pawan Kalyan; and the satirical comedy Thamizh Padam (2010) as Sudigadu (2012), starring Allari Naresh. Both the movies fared well at the box office.
Among Rao`s most recent directorial credits are the romantic comedy Speedunnodu (2016) and the comedy Silly Fellows (2018), the latter of which featured Allari Naresh and Sunil in the lead roles.
