Bruce Lee, born on November 27, 1940, in San Francisco, California, USA was a Hong Kong-American film actor, martial arts expert, and philosopher. His father Lee Hoi-Chuen, was a famous Cantonese opera star who introduced Lee to films at a very young age. He started working as a child actor. Infact, he appeared in around 20 films by the time he turned 18.
After Lee got involved in several street fights, his parents decided to get him trained in martial arts. So, he began training with Yip Man who kept his students from fighting in street gangs by encouraging them to fight in organized competitions. In 1958, Bruce won the Hong Kong school boxing tournament by knocking out the previous champion in the finals.
In 1959, Lee got into a street fight so his parents sent him to the United States to live with his sister. Soon, Lee started to teach a form of martial arts called Jun Fan Gung Fu in Seattle. He even opened his first martial arts school, The Lee Jun Fan Gung Fu Institute. At a martial arts exhibition in 1964 led to an audition for William Dozier`s Number One Son. The show never materialized, but Dozier saw potential in Lee.
Later, he offered Lee to play the role of Kato alongside Van Williams in the TV series titled The Green Hornet. After a few sporadic acting assignments, he focused on different methods of training in martial arts and incorporated them into his own style. He went on to sign a film contract to star in two films produced by Golden Harvest in 1971 including Fist of Fury and Way of the Dragon.
However, after the completion of Enter the Dragon and a few days before its release, Lee passed away. Lee was posthumously honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1993.
