Bugs is an advertising professional, actor, writer and film director. In advertising, he has created long-running campaigns and won his fair share of awards. Among his enduring campaigns are: Thums Up Taste the Thunder, Kingfisher King of Good Times, Kerala God`s Own Country and India Tourism`s Discover India Discover Yourself. Bugs also led the creative team that launched and drove the Hyundai Santro to success.
He has worked on a wide range of product categories and has pioneered "Peak performance engineering` for organisations and the concept of "Brand neighbourhoods` to re-establish the idea of enduring relationships between brands and consumers in this scattered media landscape. Bugs has also been making advertising commercials for leading brands for over 30 years.
In television, Bugs hosted UTV`s emblematic Mathematics Show in English with Shernaz Patel. He was the foolish, madcap half of the duo. Bugs then helped conceive and direct the first two seasons of the Bournvita Quiz Contest, which was one of India`s longest-running quiz shows for senior school children.
Bugs has been acting on stage for the better part of his life. He has played many iconic characters. Among his favourite roles is Nicky in Rahul DaCunha`s Pune Highway, which was performed and celebrated in nine countries.. Though he has acted in numerous plays, musicals have his particular fondness. He has Sung in many musicals. His favourite roles being Judas and Pilate in Jesus Christ Superstar, Che and Peron and Magaldi in Evita. Jesus in Godspell, the Lion in The Wiz, Mickey in Blood Brothers and Cogsworth the clock in Disney`s eye popping production of Beauty and the Beast. Bugs has won a coveted META award (Mahindra Award for Theatre Excellence) for his performance in Jazz, a chronicle of a Goan musician who brought Jazz influences into Bollywood film music. Rahul DaCunha and Bugs wrote Sing India Sing, a musical that had a very successful run on the stage and is now being readied for the screen.
Among the movies Bugs has acted in are Taare Zameen Par, Kaminey, Delhi Belly, Dum Maro Dum, Murder 3, Aashiqui 2, Katti Bhatti, Half Girlfriend, Basmati Blues, Music School and Suitable Boy. Bugs is also known as `The Idiot` in investment circles. That is the role he has played in some hugely successful financial wisdom films created by Amole Gupte. He also voiced King Louie in Disney`s Hindi version of The Jungle Book. And Hank the octopus.
As a film director, `Pune Highway ` is Bug`s fourth film. `Barot House`, `Nail Polish` and `Pigeon` (in post) are the other three. He has also helped write the hit Amazon Prime show `Dil, Dosti, Dilemma` . Bugs and Rahul`s next is `Old Cypress.`
Bugs has discovered a passion as arduous as filmmaking. Novel writing. He has finished his first book, `Murder in the Time of Jazz,` and is well into his second one, `Puppetman.`
