Best known for her roles in Carnal Knowledge (1971), The Wind and the Lion (1975), Miss Congeniality (2000) and Sweet Home Alabama (2002), Candice Bergen is a former American fashion model and five-time Emmy Award-winning and two-time Golden Globe Award-winning actress. Having started her career as a fashion model, she rose to fame when she appeared on the cover of the Vogue Magazine. After a successful stint as a model, Bergen ventured into acting and made her debut on the silver screen with The Group in 1966. Whilst, Bergen's maiden film did not do well at the box office she got the attention of the filmmakers and she subsequently received several offers.
Born and raised in Beverly Hills, California, to Swedish immigrants, Fonda's first tryst with entertainment business started when she appeared on her father's radio program at the age of five. While growing up Bergen wanted to become a designer and she was elected Homecoming Queen and Miss University. But eventually, after she failed in two of her courses in graduation she took up modeling and later acting.
Post her debut on the silver screen with The Group in 1966, Bergen received several offers through the decade, however, it was in 1979 when she got her first Academy Award nomination for her brilliant role in Starting Over. She continued to be active in the film industry until 1985 post in which she took a long break for about 15 years. After the long hiatus she made her comeback with Miss Congeniality (2000) and since then she has worked in films like Sex and the City (2008), The Romantics (2010), Rules Don't Apply (2016) and Book Club (2018), an American romantic comedy directed by debutant director Bill Holderman.
Apart from films, Bergen also has worked extensively in the TV industry and she has been quite successful at it too. She started her career in the TV industry around the same time as she started out in films. Her maiden appearance on the small screen was with Coronet Blue (1967) and later appeared in series' like Mayflower Madam (1987), Seinfeld (1992), Understanding (1994-95), Family Guy (2000), Sex and the City (2002-04), Will and Grace (2004), Boston Legal (2005-08), Battle Creek (2015) and Bojack Horseman (2016).
