Cary Joji Fukunaga is an American film director, writer, and cinematographer, who is perhaps best known for directing the first season of the HBO TV series True Detective (2014-). He won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series that year. Fukunaga made his directorial debut with Sin Nombre (2009). He next went on to adapt Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre (2011). In 2015 Fukunaga directed Beasts of No Nation, which was produced and distributed by Netflix. He also worked on the screenplay for Andy Muschietti's horror movie, It (2017). The movie is based on legendary writer Stephen King's horror epic of the same name.
