An Indian film and television actor, director and retired lawyer, Charu Hassan has featured in more than 120 films, in supporting roles. His range of performances have been spread over multiple industries which include Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam film industries. He made his debut eventually in 1979 in the Tamil film Uthiripookkal, although his younger brother Kamal Haasan was already acting as a child actor. His notable works in the Kannada film industry were Tabarana Kathe (1987), for which he received the National Film Award for Best Actor in 1986, as well as the Karnataka State Film Award for Best Actor (1986) and Kubi Matthu Iyala (1992), for which he bagged the Filmfare Award for Best Kannada Actor 1992. He then forayed Malayalam cinema and featured in films like Vachanam (1990), Randam Varavu (1990), Aayushkalam (1992), War and Love (2003), and Raghuvinte Swantham Raziya (2011), among others. His Tamil and Telugu film career consists of popular films like Saithan (2016) and Naa Peru Surya, Naa Illu India (2018). His latest project is Odu Raja Odu (2018).
