A dramatist, actor, translator playwright, director, and mentor par excellence all rolled into one, Chetan Datar was a rising star in Marathi theatre. Having worked with names such as Ashok Ranade, Waman Kendre, Arun Naik, and Sucharita Apte during his time at the National Centre for Performing Arts, Datar went on to write his first play, Savlya, following a workshop with renowned theatre personality Satyadev Dubey. Savlya was the first of many acclaimed plays and was followed by works such as Zulwa, Ek Madhav Baug, and Jungle Mai Mangal, to name a few. Chetan Datar eventually went on to become a core member of the Marathi experimental theatre group Awishkar and is celebrated as a bridge between the form and the rest of the world.
