She initially started her career as a model. From the age of 18 to 27, she was active in the fashion industry before making her television debut in the MTV anthology series Undressed (1999). Her first lead role came in Beggars and Choosers (2000-01). Some of her popular series are The Court (2002), The Big Time (2002 - Television film), Kevin Hill (2004-05), and Mad Men (2007-15).
The series Mad Men is one of the landmarks in her career for which she was nominated Primetime Emmy Awards six times for the category Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. And for the same, she won a Screen Actors Guild Award, Golden Nymph Award, and Critics' Choice Television Award. She is often praised for her ideal shape and is seen as a fitness role model by her fans. She was once voted as Best Looking American Woman by Esquire magazine. In 2007, she made her film debut with La Cucina. She has had a good inning in the films too. Her notable films are Drive (2011), Lost River (2014), Dark Places (2015), and The Neon Demon (2016).
