Having started her career as an assistant editor, Simpson worked under several notable editors like Pietro Scalia, David Brenner, Joe Hutshing and Julie Monroe. Having made her debut as an assistant editor with Reds (1981), her maiden venture as the lead editor was Peace on Borrowed Time (1983), a TV movie. Her other notable film credits include The Fan (1996), The Reader (2009), Nine (2010), The Snowman (2017) and All the Money in the World (2018).
