Initially, D. R. K. Kiran wanted to be a director but his first encounter with film ended up being with an art director. This led him to ultimately become an art director himself, primarily working with Tamil cinema. He has worked on numerous films over the decades, from Ooty in 1990 to Kavan in 2017. He has made several appearances on film and television and has been involved in over 2000 TV commercials, national and international. A notable achievement is his work on the popular song Why This Kolaveri Di (2012), written and sung by Dhanush. His 2019 release includes Kaappaan, a Tamil movie directed by K. V. Anand.
