Debashree Roy is an Indian actress who has starred in more than 100 films and has won 40 awards, including aNational Film Award for Best Actress for the filmUnishe April (1994). Her on-screen debut was with the Malayalam film Ee Ganam Marakkumo (1978), after which she was seen mostly in Bengali films. She followed this up with performances in Dadar Kirti (1980), 36 Chowringhee Lane (1981), Phulwari (1984) and Manaivi Reddy (1986). Roy then appeared in lead roles in films like Aparanher Alo (1989), Asukh (1999), Ek Je Aachhe Kanya (2000) and Antarghaat (2002). She received significant praise for her performance in films like Sukhno Lonka (2010), Jibon Rang Berang (2011), Life in Park Street (2012) and Antore Bahire (2012). Apart from being a successful actress, Roy is also a social activist and a member of the Legislative Assembly from All India Trinamool Congress.
