The winner of several prestigious awards including the National Society of Film Critics Award and the London Film Critics Circle Award, Edward Maurice Charles Marsan, better known by his onscreen name, Eddie Marsan is an English TV and film actor. Born in a simple working-class family, Marsan was just 16 when he quit school and started working; his first job was as an apprentice painter.
After working for a while, Marsan realized his interest in theatre and decided to pursue acting as a career. He trained at the Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts and after completing his graduation in 1991, he later went to train under the tutelage of Sam Kogan at The Kogan Academy of Dramatic Arts. He started his professional career as an actor with an appearance in the London Weekend TV series, The Piglet Files (1992) where he appeared as Yob.
He played a more significant role in popular BBC sitcom Game On during the mid-90s where he played the role of a bank robber. He later, over the years has been part of several TV series' and films include Grange Hill, The Bill, Ultimate Force, and Southcliffe. The English actor got his big break on the silver screen in 1997 when he starred in the American-German spy comedy film The Man Who Knew Too Little.
With the dawn of the new millennium, Marson started to play mostly villainous roles and he has appeared as the main antagonist in several hit films like the superhero film Hancock (2008) and Sherlock Holmes film series. Some of his other notable film credits include The Monkey King (2001), The Illusionist (2006), V for Vendetta (2006), Moby Dick (2011), Filth (2013), Atomic Blonde (2017) and 7 Days In Entebbe (2018), an English crime drama thriller directed by Jose Padilha.
