Edward James Olmos is an American actor, director and producer. When he began his career in acting, Olmos was also playing in a band. Although he made his film debut with little known roles in movies like Bogard (1974) and Aloha, Bobby and Rose (1975), it was Luis Valdez`s play, "Zoot Suit", in 1978 that brought him into the limelight. It was later made into a movie and Olmos reprised his role as a narrator in the movie too. He has starred in movies like Alambrista! (1977), Wolfen (1981), The Ballad of Gregorio Cortez (1982), Saving Grace (1986), Stand and Deliver (1988), Triumph of the Spirit (1989), My Family (1995), Caught (1996), Selena (1997) and 2 Guns (2013). Olmos is best known for roles like William Adama in the Battlestar Galactica (2004-2009) reboot, Lieutenant Martin "Marty" Castillo in Miami Vice (1984-1989), a teacher in Stand and Deliver and Detective Gaff in the sci-fi classic Blade Runner (1982). He has won the multiple Golden Globe Awards, Primetime Emmy`s, Saturn Awards & ALMA Awards. Apart from being a veteran actor, Olmos is also a director & producer. He directed the critically acclaimed mafia movie, American Me (1992). Olmos reprised his role of Detective Gaff from Ridley Scott`s Blade Runner in the sequel Blade Runner 2049 (2017), directed by Denis Villeneuve. The movie has Harrison Ford, Ryan Gosling, Ana de Armas, Robin Wright and Jared Leto in prominent roles. He is also associated with the 2017 movie Coco directed by Lee Unkrich.
