American screenwriter and producer Eric Roth is best remembered for penning the multiple Academy Award-winning comedy-drama Forrest Gump (1994), which also earned him the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay in 1995. An alumnus of the UCLA Film School, he started out in Hollywood with the movie To Catch a Pebble in 1970, and has since been associated with over 20 films in a career spanning around five decades.
Several of the films written by Roth have been critically acclaimed, with the drama The Insider (1999), the historical drama Munich (2005), the fantasy romantic drama The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008) and Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close (2011) being nominated in the Best Picture category at the Academy Awards. Besides his work in cinema, the veteran writer has also ventured into television through shows like The Heights (1992), Luck (2011-'12), House of Cards (2013-'18) and The Alienist (2018); the latter two of which he executive produced. In 2018, Roth co-wrote the musical romantic drama A Star is Born, which featured Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga in central roles.
