Essie Davis is an Australian actress, singer and producer who is best known for playing the titular role in the crime drama Miss Fisher`s Murder Mysteries (2012 - 2015). Davis has won awards for her work on both the stage and the screen, including a Laurence Olivier Award and several Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards. Davis started her career on the stage, in successful productions of Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet and Macbeth, in the early `90s. She soon moved to the big screen and starred in the latter two movies of the iconic Matrix series, the 2003 releases The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions.

However, her big break was the role of Phryne Fisher in Miss Fisher`s Murder Mysteries, which went on to become a popular series. Over the years she gained more recognition with her work in movies like Burning Man (2011), The Babadook (2014), and True History of the Kelly Gang (2019). She also played a recurring role in the hit series Game of Thrones (2016). More recent works include the movie adaptation Miss Fisher & the Crypt of Tears (2020) and Babyteeth (2020).
