Jerry Boyd was a boxing trainer by profession and a writer, who went by the pseudonym of F. X. Toole, by choice. The deceased Toole is best remembered for his short stories Rope Burns: Stories from the Corner. Clint Eastwood’s adaptation of the short stories, Million Dollar Baby, went on to win four Academy Awards.
