Galen T. Chu is a film director, animator, and screenwriter best known for his works in the Ice Age movie franchise. Chu`s career has seen him going from an animator and layout artist to an animated feature film director.
Movie CareerGalen T. Chu began his film career with Blue Sky Studios. His first major project was as an animator and an additional story writer on the 2002 landmark film
Ice Age. The success of the film resulted in the creation of numerous Ice Age sequels and spin-offs, with Chu steadily rising up the ranks in the industry. Later that year, he worked as a 3-D layout artist on the short film Gone Nutty, an Ice Age spin-off which was also nominated for an Oscar Award. He was soon appointed as a lead animator on the 2005 feature film Robots. The following year he worked as the animation supervisor on
Ice Age: The Meltdown.
In 2008, Galen T. Chu made his directorial debut with the short film Surviving Sid, based on the comical Ice Age character Sid. Over the next few years, he was the supervising animator for films like
Horton Hears a Who (2008),
Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (2009),
Rio (2011),
Ice Age: Continental Drift (2012), and
Epic (2013). In 2015, Chu directed the short film Cosmic Scrat-tastrophe, based on the unfortunate Ice Age character Scrat, a comical saber-toothed squirrel. The year 2016 saw Galen T. Chu co-direct his first full-length feature film
Ice Age: Collision Course, along with
Mike Thurmeier. Although the film didn`t receive too many positive reviews, the movie was a personal milestone for Chu, who successfully climbed the animation film ladder from an animator to a full-length feature film director.
