About
George Reeves was an American actor best known for playing 'Superman' on the television show Adventures of Superman in 1950s. Born as George Keefer Brewer, it was after he got a contract with Warner Bros. that his professional name was changed to George Reeves. Although his first acting project was the movie Gone With The Wind (1939), there were several other projects that released prior to the film's release.

After appearing in a minor role in Gone With The Wind, Reeves was seen in movies such as Father Is a Prince (1940), Always a Bride (1940), Dead Men Tell (1941), and Border Patrol (1942). In 1943, the actor joined the U.S. Army and later returned to Hollywood in the mid-1940s.

In June 1951, when Reeves was first offered the role of Superman for a TV series, he was reluctant as at the time he felt television was unimportant. However, he soon accepted the offer and went on to achieve tremendous success with his role. He first appeared as Superman in the movie Superman and the Mole Men, which also served as the TV pilot. Reeves would later portray the character for 8 years in 104 episodes until 1958.

On June 16, 1959, Reeves was found dead at his home with a gunshot wound to his head. The incident was officially ruled as a suicide.
