Govind Vasantha is a celebrated Indian music director, vocalist, and violinist who works primarily in Tamil and Malayalam cinema. He gained widespread acclaim for his soulful score in the film 96, winning the Filmfare Award for Best Music Director - Tamil. Hailing from a musically inclined family in Irinjalakuda, Thrissur, Kerala, Vasantha's early musical grounding came from his uncle, Carnatic musician Gopinathan. In a conscious decision to discard caste-based identifiers and advocate social equality, he formally changed his surname from Menon to Vasantha, adopting his mother's name a choice highlighted by actor Vijay Sethupathi during a Tamil television appearance. Beyond his work in film music, Vasantha is a key co-founder, lead vocalist, and violinist for the renowned music band Thaikkudam Bridge. Following his retirement from the government's Irrigation Department in 2012, his father, Peethambaran, also joined the band as a prominent featured artist.
