An Indian TV and film actor, Gurmeet Choudhary rose to prominence after appearing as Lord Ram in the television serial Ramayan. He further appeared as a contestant in reality shows like Jhalak Dikhhla Ja 5, which he also won, and Nach Baliye 6, where he was the runner-up along with his wife Debina Bonnerjee.
Early Life
Born as Gurmeet Sitaram Choudhary in Chandigarh, India, Gurmeet`s father Sitaram Choudhary was an army officer. Owing to his father`s job, Gurmeet has stayed in parts of the country. He stayed in Jabalpur for most of his growing years and it`s there that he developed a passion for acting. Gurmeet won the title of Mr. Jabalpur and at the age of 18, joined a theater group there.
Personal Life
Gurmeet met his wife
Debina Bonnerjee on a talent show, where the two co-participated. Debina once in an interview said, "I came to Mumbai in 2006 for a talent hunt contest and met Gurmeet there. He was also among the top 30 contestants. That`s when I saw him for the first time, but then, we were just friends. Later, when I shifted to the city, he helped me in settling down. He was my roommate`s boyfriend`s friend, and he always used to come along with his friend to our place. While they both chatted, I and Gurmeet used to spend some time together and this went on for days. After a couple of months, my roommate`s boyfriend shifted to some other place, and thus he too stopped coming. It was then that we started missing each other and felt that we shared a bond." After the initial attraction, they started dating and five years down the line, Gurmeet proposed her marriage on a reality TV show Pati, Patni Aur Woh. The couple tied the knot on 15th February, 201, in a simple wedding.
Television Career
Gurmeet was catapulted to instant stardom after doing a starring role as Lord Ram in the Indian TV series, Ramayan (2008-2009), produced by Sagar Arts and directed by Anand Sagar. For acing the character of the King of Ayodhya, Gurmeet bagged the "Most Promising New Talent of Tomorrow" Award. What further added to his popularity was the fact that Debina Bonnerjee, who is his wife now, played the character of Sita, his on-screen wife, back then. From 2010 to 2011, Gurmeet played the male lead in another successful TV show Geet- Hui Sabse Parai. He was cast as Maan Singh Khurana, opposite famous television actress Drasthi Dhami. Thier chemistry was applauded by the viewers, making them a celebrated on-screen pain at that time. Between 2012-2013, he was part of Zee TV`s show Punar Vivah.
In 2012, Gurmeet, along with his choreographer Shampa Sonthalia, participated and won the fifth season of Jhalak Dikhhla Ja, which the Indian version of BBC`s Strictly Come Dancing. In 2013, Gurmeet and Debina participated in Nach Baliye 6, where they were declared the runner-ups. He then reached the finals of the action reality show Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi (season 5), but lost to Rajneesh Duggal.
Movie Career
Gurmeet broke into the Hindi film industry with the romantic horror film
Khamoshiyan, in 2015. Directed by
Vikram Bhatt and produced by
Mahesh Bhatt, the movie is said to be loosely inspired by Alfred Hitchcock`s Psycho and Robert Zemeckis` What Lies Beneath. Starring Gurmeet Choudhary,

Sapna Pabbi in the lead roles, Khamoshiyan failed to garner good response at the box office. He then appeared in a special appearance in the
Emraan Hashmi and
Amyra Dastur starrer
Mr. X. His 2016 release includes the crime thriller
