Hayao Miyazaki is a Japanese film director, writer, producer, animator, author, and manga artist who is considered a legendary animation director worldwide. He handled various roles in the animation industry for nearly 16 years, before directing his first animation movie The Castle of Cagliostro in 1979. In 1984 Miyazaki directed Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. The movie`s success prompted him to start Studio Ghibli with Toshio Suzuki, Isao Takahata and Yasuyoshi Tokuma. Since then he has directed movies like Castle in the Sky (1986), My Neighbor Totoro (1988), Kiki`s Delivery Service (1989), Porco Rosso (1992), Princess Mononoke (1997), Spirited Away (2001), Howl`s Moving Castle (2004), Ponyo (2008) and The Wind Rises (2013), for Studio Ghibli. Miyazaki won the Best Animated Feature Oscar for his 2001 masterpiece, Spirited Away. In 2013 he announced that he`s retiring from movie direction. But in 2017 Studio Ghibli announced that Miyazaki is coming out of retirement to direct a new movie for the banner.
