Hugo Butler was Canadian Screenwriter who started his career as a journalist and playwright before becoming scriptwriter. He was married to the actress Jean Rouverol who later became an author and screenwriter. He has written famous screenplays like Edison the Man, Blossoms in the Dust, Lassie Come Home and The Southerner. During 1950s he was blacklisted for his works and later he has continued his work through various pseudonyms when he was on exile for thirteen years. These works has been given an official recognition only after his death.
