Hwasa first captivated audiences as a member of Mamamoo before launching her solo career in February 2019 with "Twit," which went straight to No. 1 on Korean music charts. Known for her powerful, soulful voice, fearless self-expression, and commanding stage presence, she has since become one of K-pop's most distinctive solo artists, writing and producing much of her own music.

Her 2020 EP Maria produced a title track whose music video has surpassed 350 million views, while her 2021 single "I'm a B" also topped the charts. She has made history as the first artist to place two tracks in the Top 10 of Billboard's Digital Song Sales chart, featured on Dua Lipa's "Physical," and scored another smash with "Good Goodbye" (2025), whose video has drawn over 180 million views. Her most recent single, "So Cute," was released in April 2026.

Hwasa's honours include Best Dance Performance Solo at MAMA, Best Solo Artist and Best Digital Song (Bonsang) at the Golden Disc Awards, and New Icon of the Year at the Circle Chart Music Awards. On stage, she has toured North America with her Hwasa Live Tour [Twits], headlined her 2026 concert Mi Casa, and performed at Rock in Rio in Brazil.
