Early Life:
Fleming came from a wealthy family connected to the merchant bank Robert Fleming & Co. He was educated at Eton, Sandhurst and briefly, the universities of Munich and Geneva. Ian Fleming worked for Britain`s Naval Intelligence Division during the Second World War.
Writing:
Ian Fleming came out with his first Bond book, Casino Royale in 1952. It garnered great acclaim and demand for more books was generated. Eleven Bond novels and two short-story collections followed between 1953 and 1966.
Death:
Fleming was a heavy smoker and drinker throughout his adult life, and suffered from heart disease. In 1961, aged 53, he suffered a heart attack and struggled to recuperate. On 11 August 1964, Fleming collapsed with another heart attack leading to his death at age 56 in the early morning of 12 August 1964.
