Associated with films mostly starring Raj Kapoor and Dev Anand, he made his debut with the film Phool Aur Kaante (1948), and moved on to Aag(1948), Aah (1953), Anari (1959) and Sangam (1963).

Over the years, Inder Raj Anand was associated with box office and critical successes in cinema like Anari (1959), Challia (1960), Sangam (1964), Ghar Ghar Ki Kahani (1970), Haathi Mere Saathi (1971), Nagin (1976), and Mard (1985) among innumerable other films.
