Starting off as an associate producer with the comedy series, Comedy Factory (1985-1986), J. Miles Dale is a film and television producer and director, who works in the Hollywood film industry. He made his big screen debut as a producer with the 1985 movie, Timing. Over the years Dale has produced TV shows like True Confessions (1985-1987), Friday's Curse (1987-1990), RoboCop (1994), F/X: The Series (1996-1998), Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments (2016- ), and The Strain (2014-2017). As a film producer Dale's credits include Harvard Man (2001), Blizzard (2003), Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle (2004), Hollywoodland (2006), Talk to Me (2007), Pontypool (2008), Flash of Genius (2008), Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010), The Thing (2011), The Vow (2012), Mama (2013), Carrie (2013), and Endless Love (2014). Dale has also directed TV episodes for shows like RoboCop (1994), Andromeda (2000-2005), Doc (2001-2004), Sue Thomas: F.B.Eye (2002-2005), Love You to Death (2006-2007), Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments (2016- ), and The Strain (2014-2017).

In 2018 Dale produced director Guillermo del Toro's adventure-fantasy romance-drama, The Shape of Water. Del Toro, apart from directing, also served as a producer on the movie. The film went on to receive 13 nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Supporting Actress at the 90th Academy Awards. In 2018 The Shape of Water released in India.
