Jared Harris is an English actor popularly known for his roles on TV shows such as Madmen wherein he essayed the character of Lane Pryce and the sci-fi series Fringe wherein he essayed of David Robert Jones. He has also played the role of King George on Netflix’s The Crown. Harris has appeared in several successful movies such as The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008), Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (2011), and Allied (2016).

Early Life
Harris was born to Richard Harris, an Irish actor, and Elizabeth Rees-Williams, a Welsh actress. He has a younger brother, Jamie Harris, who is also an actor, and an elder brother Damian Harris, who is a director. The actor graduated from the Duke University in 1983 and holds a BFA degree.

Personal Life
In 1989, Harris married Jacqueline Goldenberg, however, the couple got divorced in the early 1990s. In 2005, Harris married actress Emilia Fox and four years later the couple filed for a divorce in January 2010. The actor then dated Allegra Riggio, a TV Host and lighting designer for a period of fours years before marrying to her on 9th November 2013.

Movie Career
Harris made his acting debut with the movie The Rachel Papers in 1989 essaying the role of Geoff. In subsequent years he appeared in movies such as The Last of the Mohicans (1992), Natural Born Killers (1994), and Tall Tale, which was released in 1995. In the following year, he starred in the American-British independent film I Shot Andy Warhol. Directed by Mary Harron, the movie explores the life of the radical feminist Valerie Solanas and her relationship with American artist Andy Warhol, essayed by Harris. The movie was also screened at the 1996 Cannes Film Festival in the Un Certain Regard category. His next lead role came with another independent film Sunday (1997) directed and co-produced by Jonathan Nossiter. The movie won the 1997 Sundance Film Festival Grand Jury prize for the Best Screenplay and Best Film award.

In 1998, he essayed the character of a Russian student, Vlad, in the comedy-drama film directed by Todd Solondz. The movie was praised for tapping on the controversial contemporary themes and for its outstanding visual fluidity - it won the FIPRESCI Award at the 1998 Cannes Film Festival. In the same year, Harris gave one of the best performances of his career in the movie B. Monkey directed by Michael Radford. His role as Alan, a schoolteacher by day and a jazz DJ for a hospital PA system by night, was unanimously praised by the audience and critics, although the movie received mixed reviews, Anita Gates of the New York Times wrote: The best part of B. Monkey is reveling in the dark side of Rupert Everett. The dissolute Rupert Everett. Rupert Everett, drinking and drugging, destroying his chiseled good looks and recklessly putting his life in danger... which is where the second-best part of B. Monkey comes in Jared Harris, who is becoming one of the most fascinating actors around. However, his next project, Lost In Space, released in the same year, turned out to be a box office disaster.

In the subsequent years, the actor appeared in movies such as Shadow Magic (2000), Dummy (2002), and Sylvia (2003). He was also part of the hit movie Ocean’s Twelve (2004), appearing in a minor role. Harris next appeared as Dr. Charles Ashford in the apocalyptic fiction horror film, Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004) directed by Alexander Witt.

In 2008, the actor starred in the Academy Award-winning movie The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. A couple of years later he was seen essaying the role of a psychiatrist, Dr. Stringer, in the psychological horror movie, The Ward, directed by John Carpenter. However, in 2011, he essayed the character of the antagonist. Professor Moriarty in the acclaimed movie Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law. His other movies include The Devil’s Violinist (2013), Poltergeist (2015), and Allied (2016).

TV Career
Harris made his television debut on the TV show New York Undercover in 1995. He only returned to television five years later with the TV movie Two of Us wherein he essayed the character of John Lenon. In subsequent years he guest-starred in TV movies and shows such as The Other Boleyn Girl (2003), To The Ends of Earth (2005), and The Shadow in the North (2007). He next starred in a substantial role as Dr. David Robert James in the sci-fi TV series Fringe.

However, one of the best roles of his career came with the TV show Mad Men. Harris appeared in 26 episodes of the TV show as Lane Pryce and was also nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series. In 2016, he portrayed the role of King George VI in the Netflix TV series The Crown.

THEATRE CAREER
In 1991, Harris appeared in the play Henry IV Part 1 and Part 2 as Henry “Hotspur” Percy at the Public Theater. In the following years, he appeared in plays such as Ecstacy (1995), More Lies About Jerzy (2001), Humble Boy (2003), and Period of Adjustment (2006).
