A former actor Jason Dean Hall is an American screenwriter and director best known for writing the screenplay of the acclaimed movie American Sniper. As an actor Hall essayed a recurring character - Devon MacLeish - on the TV show Buffy the Vampire Slayer. In 2014, he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for the movie American Sniper.

Hall turned director in 2017 with the movie Thank You For Your Service starring Haley Bennett, Miles Teller, Amy Schumer, and Kate Lyn Sheil.
