Earning an Oscar nomination in the Best Supporting Actress category for her role as Lina Lamont in the comedy-musical, Singin' in the Rain (1952), Jean Shirley Verhagen was an American actress. Shortening her name to Jean Hagen, she made her acting debut in 1949 with the Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy starrer, Adam's Rib (1949). Hagen has acted in movies like Side Street (1949), The Asphalt Jungle (1950), Night Into Morning (1951), Carbine Williams (1952), The Big Knife (1955), The Shaggy Dog (1959), Sunrise at Campobello (1960) and Dead Image (1964). She also starred as 'Margaret Williams' in the hit TV show Make Room for Daddy (1953-1956). Hagen was nominated thrice for an Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. She was married to Tom Seidel in 1947, whom she divorced in 1965. Jean Hagen passed away on August 29, 1977, due to esophageal cancer.
