The winner of several laurels, including a lifetime achievement award, a BAFTA Fellowship, the BAFTA Award for Best Foreign Actress, Jeanne Moreau was a French actress, singer, director and screenwriter. Having started her career in the film industry as a theater actress in 1947, she soon established herself as one of the leading actresses of the Comedie-Francaise. She started her career in the film industry by playing small and supporting roles before winning wide appreciation for her role as the showgirl in the French film Touchez pas au grisbi (1954). The veteran star, in her illustrious career spanning over than 70 years starred in more than 70 films across French and English languages. Apart from acting, Moreau also directed many films including a documentary titled Lillian Gish (1983) and feature films titled Lumiere (1976), and L'Adolescente (1979). The actress who was known to have 'embodied cinema' passed away at the age of 89 at her home in Paris.
