An alumnus of the Trinity College of Music in London, guitarist, songwriter and composer John P. Varkey is perhaps best known for his association with popular bands like Avial and Jigsaw Puzzle, of which he was a core member. In 2007, John ventured into films with the Bollywood drama Frozen, and has since scored the music for acclaimed movies like I.D. (2012) and Kammatipaadam (2016). Other significant film credits as a music director include Unnam (2012), Olipporu (2013) and the 2018 romantic drama Eeda.
