Jon Watts is an American filmmaker known for directing the Marvel Cinematic Universe`s Spider-Man trilogy and for his work in both film and television. Born in Fountain, Colorado, Watts studied film at New York University`s Tisch School of the Arts. He began his career directing commercials and music videos before transitioning to feature films.
Watts made his feature directorial debut with the horror film Clown (2014), followed by the thriller Cop Car (2015), which garnered attention for its suspenseful storytelling. His success with Cop Car led to his selection as the director for Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), marking the beginning of his collaboration with Marvel Studios. He continued to direct Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) and Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), the latter becoming a significant box office success.
In addition to his work on the Spider-Man films, Watts directed episodes of the television series The Old Man (2022) and served as an executive producer. He also co-created and directed the Disney+ series Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, which premiered in December 2024.
Watts directed the Apple TV+ film Wolfs (2024), starring George Clooney and Brad Pitt. The film had a limited theatrical release on September 20, 2024, before streaming on Apple TV+ starting September 27, 2024. Wolfs follows two fixers hired for the same job, leading to unexpected complications.
Looking ahead, Watts is involved in the production of Final Destination: Bloodlines (2025), serving as a co-producer and contributing to the story development. He has also signed a first-look deal with Walt Disney Studios, allowing him to develop and direct feature-length projects for Disney live-action and 20th Century Studios.
