An Indo-Canadian singer who gained popularity through online videos, Jonita Gandhi is a playback singer who has performed in movies across Hindi, Tamil, Bengali, Telugu and Kannada languages. Her most popular covers on YouTube include Someone Like You, Tujhko Jo Paaya, Pani Da Rang, Suhaani Raat, Yeh Honsla and Tum Hi Ho, to name a few. She stepped into the playback singing business with Vishal-Shekhar for the 2013 movie Chennai Express. She then featured in MTV Coke Studio India (Season 3) for the song 'Pinjra', before making her debut in Bengali cinema with the song 'E Mon Aajkal' from the movie Majnu (2013). She then went on to collaborate with music maestro A.R. Rahman to lend her voice for songs in movies such as Highway, Kochadaiiyaan, and Lekar Hum Deewana Dil. She has also worked on the popular Rahman song 'Mental Manadhil' from Mani Ratnam's movie O Kadhal Kanmani.
Jonita was the voice behind one of 2016's most popular songs titled 'The Breakup Song' from the movie Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, which got her several nominations like Most Entertaining Singer (Female) at Big ZEE Entertainment Awards, Zee Cine Award for Best Playback Singer - Female and Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer. Her song 'Gilehriyaan' from Dangal won her The Critics' Choice Female Vocalist of The Year at Mirchi Music Awards. Her other popular songs include 'Azhagiye' from Kaatru Veliyidai, 'Chandralekha' from A Gentleman and 'Yaadon Mein' from Jab Harry Met Sejal. She has also collaborated with Sachin-Jigar for the song 'Lagdi Hai Thaai' from the movie Simran (2017) and 'Will you marry me' from Bhoomi. Her other venture includes One Heart: The A.R. Rahman Concert Film (2017), a movie about A.R. Rahman's concert tour across 14 cities in North America. In 2018, Jonita worked in the Marathi movie Dry Day, and the Gujarati movie, Mijaaj.
