Early LifeKalaiyarasan Harikrishnan was born on the 20th of February, 1986 in Chennai to Harikrishnan and Tamilmani. He has a sister Vaishnavi, and a brother Rajeshkumar Harikrishnan, who is also a Tamil movie actor. Kalaiyarasan holds a bachelor`s degree in computer applications from SRM University. After his graduation, he started working at Accenture.
Personal LifeThe actor is married to Shanmugapriya whom he met while working at Accenture, his first place of employment.
Acting CareerDespite working for a reputed firm, when Kalaiyarasan was offered Parthy Bhaskar`s Arjunan Kadhali, he took up the project. The movie, which was all set to be released in 2008, would have been his debut movie, but due to certain reasons the movie remains unreleased. He was then roped in by director Mysskin for two of his projects: Nandalala and
Mugamoodi. Eventually the 2010 released Nandalala became Kalaiyarasan`s debut movie, which opened to rave reviews and was also considered to be one of the year`s best Tamil movies. Given the fact that the actor started his career by working with Mysskin, the actor considers the director to be his mentor. After two commercial successes, Kalaiyarasan was seen doing small roles in the then debutant director
Pa. Ranjith`s movie
Attakathi in 2012, and Vikram Sugumaran`s
Madha Yaanai Koottam the following year.
In spite of appearing in a handful of box-office successes, Kalaiyarasan best performance came with Pa. Ranjith`s drama
Madras in 2014, where he was cast alongside
Karthik Sivakumar, who is better known as Karthi, and
Catherine Tresa. Madras went on to become a commercially and critically acclaimed movie, and even Kalaiyarasan`s performance garnered praise from critics. After the huge success of Madras, Kalaiyarasan was roped in for various movies. After the much success of Madras, the following year the actor had two releases Darling and Urumeen. Whilst the former, a horror-comedy starring G.V. Prakash Kumar, Nikki Galrani and Karunas received mixed critical reviews, the latter, received wide positive reviews. In 2016, the actor had three releases and the most prominent among them being Kabali, a gangster-drama film, which is written and directed by Pa. Ranjith and featuring Rajinikanth, and Radhika Apte in the leading roles. His 2017 release include Adhe Kangal, Yeidhavan and Kaalakkoothu. His 2019 release includes Airaa.
