Kenneth `Ken` Loachis, better known as Ken Loach in film circles, is an English film and television director. He began his career in 1964 as a director for one episode in a TV series, Teletale. Loach also directed episodes for TV shows like Z Cars (1962-1978), The Wednesday Play (1964-1970), Days of Hope (1975) and Play for Today (1970-1984). He made his feature directorial debut with the sleeper hit, Poor Cow (1967). His films are known for their underlying socialist themes.

Over the years Loach has directed several critically acclaimed movies like Kes (1969), Family Life (1971), Looks and Smiles (1981), Hidden Agenda (1990), Riff-Raff (1991), Raining Stones (1993), Ladybird Ladybird (1994), Land and Freedom (1995), My Name Is Joe (1998), The Navigators (2001), Sweet Sixteen (2002), 11`09`01 - September 11 (2002), Ae Fond Kiss... (2004), Looking for Eric (2009) and The Angels Share (2012). His movies- The Wind That Shakes the Barley (2006) and I, Daniel Blake (2016) received the Palme d`Or at the Cannes Film Festival. Loach is only the ninth filmmaker to win the award twice. He was awarded the Honorary Golden Bear at the 64th Berlin International Film Festival in 2014.
