Hailing from Baharampur, West Bengal, Koushik Kar is an Indian theatre and film actor known for his work in the Bengali film industry. Despite having an MA degree, Koushik chose to pursue a career in acting, starting by joining the Minerva Repertory Theatre. Upon joining the theatre group, Koushik`s first play was Raja Lear, following which he acted in plays such as Devi Sarpamasta by Debesh Chattopadhyay, Chandragupta by Koushik Chattopadhyay, Nanda by Anirban Bhattacharya, Ras by Sangita Pal, and Boma by Bratya Basu among few others.

While continuing to perform in plays under other productions, Koushik founded his own theatre group called Kolkata Rangeela in 2014. With the first play under his banner, Ma Ak Nirbhik Sainik, Koushik made his directorial debut, which made its way to the 17th Bharat Rang Mahotsav in 2015, winning him the Sundaram Samman for Best Director.

Making his foray into the film industry, Koushik was first seen in Parambrata Chatterjee`s 2015 Bengali sports drama Lorai: Play to Live. Since then, he went on to play supporting roles in movies like Barood, Ebong Kiriti, Byomkesh Pawrbo, Shob Bhooturey, and Chabiwala: The Keysmith. In 2018, he went on to make his debut as a feature film director with the movie Pornomochi, which is also the name of a play that he directed in 2015. The movie features Koneenica Banerjee and Shantilal Mukherjee in pivotal roles. He is associated with the 2018 Bengali drama Bhoy 2 directed by Suvendu Ghosh.
